How to Make a Portal in Minecraft
In Minecraft, portals are used to travel between dimensions. The most common portal is the Nether Portal, which allows you to access the Nether. Here’s how you can make a Nether Portal:
Nether Portal (Overworld to Nether):
Materials Needed:
- Obsidian blocks (minimum 10 blocks)
- Flint and Steel or a Fire Charge
Steps:
- Mine Obsidian:
- You need a minimum of 10 obsidian blocks to create a Nether Portal.
- Mine obsidian using a diamond or netherite pickaxe. To obtain obsidian, you need to pour water over lava source blocks and then mine the resulting obsidian blocks.
- Create the Portal Frame:
- Build a rectangular frame using the obsidian blocks. The minimum size for a Nether Portal is 2 blocks wide and 3 blocks high, but it can be larger (e.g., 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks high).
- Activate the Portal:
- Use Flint and Steel or a Fire Charge to activate the portal. Right-click (or tap, depending on your platform) on the inside of the portal frame with Flint and Steel or a Fire Charge.
- Enter the Portal:
- Once activated, the portal will generate a purple swirling effect. Walk into the portal to be transported to the Nether.
End Portal (Overworld to The End):
Materials Needed:
- Eyes of Ender (minimum 12)
- Stronghold location
Steps:
- Locate a Stronghold:
- Use Eyes of Ender to locate a stronghold. Throw the Eyes of Ender, and they will lead you to the nearest stronghold.
- Find the End Portal Room:
- Once inside the stronghold, locate the End Portal room. The room contains a frame with portal blocks and empty slots.
- Activate the Portal:
- Place Eyes of Ender into the empty slots of the End Portal frame. Each slot requires one Eye of Ender.
- Complete the Portal:
- Once all the slots are filled, the portal activates. You’ll see a portal appear in the frame.
- Enter the Portal:
- Step into the portal to be transported to The End.
Important Notes:
- Obsidian: Be careful while mining obsidian, as it requires a diamond or netherite pickaxe and takes time to mine.
- Eyes of Ender: Craft Eyes of Ender using blaze powder and ender pearls.
- Stronghold: Strongholds are found randomly generated in the Overworld. They contain the End Portal leading to The End.
Creating a portal is a key aspect of Minecraft gameplay, enabling access to different dimensions and resources.
