Resetting a Chromebook can be done in a couple of ways, depending on whether you want to perform a powerwash (factory reset) or a hard reset (reboot). Here’s how to do both:
Performing a Powerwash (Factory Reset)
- Sign Out of Your Chromebook: Ensure you are signed out of your Chromebook.
- Access Settings:
- Click on the time or battery icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Select “Settings”.
- Navigate to Advanced Settings:
- Scroll down and click on “Advanced” at the bottom of the Settings page.
- Find the Reset Section:
- Scroll down to the “Reset settings” section.
- Initiate Powerwash:
- Click on “Powerwash” or “Factory reset”.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm and start the reset process.
- Complete the Powerwash:
- Your Chromebook will restart and begin the powerwash process, erasing all local data.
Performing a Hard Reset (Reboot)
- Restart Your Chromebook:
- Click on the time or battery icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Select Restart:
- Click on “Restart”.
- Perform Hard Reset Key Combination (if needed):
- If your Chromebook is frozen or unresponsive, press and hold the “Refresh” (circular arrow) key and then tap the “Power” button.
- Release both buttons when your Chromebook restarts.
- Complete the Reset:
- Your Chromebook will restart and load the login screen.
Notes:
- Back Up Data: Before performing a powerwash, ensure you back up any important data, as the process will erase all local files.
- Google Account: After resetting, you’ll need to sign in with your Google Account again to access your Chromebook.
