How to disable Google Assistant

Google Assistant is a virtual assistant developed by Google that is available on Android devices, iOS devices, and Google Home smart speakers. While many people find Google Assistant to be a useful tool for hands-free tasks and searches, others may prefer to disable it. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to disable Google Assistant on your Android device.

  1. Open the Google app: First, you’ll need to open the Google app on your Android device. You can find it by tapping the Google search bar on your home screen, or by opening the app drawer and searching for it there.
  2. Tap the three horizontal lines: In the top left corner of the Google app, you’ll see three horizontal lines. Tap on them to open the menu.
  3. Go to Settings: In the menu, scroll down until you see the “Settings” option. Tap on it to open the Settings menu.
  4. Tap on Google Assistant: In the Settings menu, you’ll see several options. Tap on “Google Assistant” to open the Google Assistant settings.
  5. Tap on Assistant: Within the Google Assistant settings, you’ll see several tabs. Tap on “Assistant” to see the options for customizing your assistant.
  6. Disable the assistant: You’ll see several options for customizing how Google Assistant works. Scroll down until you see the “Assistant devices” option. Tap on it to open the menu, and then tap on your device name. You should see a toggle switch for turning off the assistant. Tap on it to disable Google Assistant.

Note: The location of the “Assistant devices” option may vary depending on your Android device and version of the Google app. If you don’t see this option, you may need to look for a similar option in the Google Assistant settings.

  1. Confirm the change: Once you’ve turned off Google Assistant, you’ll see a message asking you to confirm the change. Tap on “Turn off” to disable Google Assistant.

That’s it! You’ve successfully disabled Google Assistant on your Android device. Keep in mind that some Android devices may have a physical button that triggers Google Assistant, and you may need to disable this as well. To do this, go to the “Button and gesture shortcuts” option within the Google Assistant settings and turn off the toggle switch for “Access with Voice Match” and/or “Access with squeeze.”
