Deleting your Telegram account permanently is a straightforward process, but the method slightly differs depending on whether you’re using the mobile app or a desktop browser. Here’s how to do it:
On Mobile App (Android & iOS):
- Open the Telegram app.
- Tap on the “Settings” icon (gear icon in the bottom right corner for Android, hamburger menu in the top left corner for iOS).
- Go to “Privacy and Security.”
- Scroll down to the “If Away for” section.
- Choose the desired timeframe for inactivity to trigger account deletion (options range from 1 month to 6 months). You can also choose “Delete My Account” immediately.
- A confirmation pop-up will appear. Enter your Telegram phone number and tap “Continue.”
- You’ll receive a confirmation code via Telegram (not SMS). Enter the code and tap “Sign In.”
- A final confirmation window will appear. Tap “Delete My Account” to permanently erase your account and all associated data.
On Desktop Browser:
- Go to the Telegram Deactivation Page: https://my.telegram.org/
- Enter your Telegram phone number with country code and click “Next.”
- You’ll receive a confirmation code via Telegram (not SMS). Enter the code and click “Sign In.”
- Choose the reason for deleting your account (optional).
- Click “Delete My Account” to permanently erase your account and all associated data.
Important Notes:
- Once you delete your account, all chats, messages, media, and contacts associated with it will be permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
- If you change your mind within 7 days, you can recover your account by reinstalling the Telegram app and logging in with your phone number.
- Consider exporting your chat history before deleting your account if you want to keep any specific conversations.
Remember, deleting your Telegram account is a permanent decision. Make sure you’re aware of the consequences before proceeding.
