How to deactivate your Instagram account (or delete it)
If you want to take a break from Instagram or permanently delete your account, you have two options: deactivate your account temporarily or delete it permanently. Here are the steps for both:
Deactivate Your Instagram Account (Temporary):
- Open Instagram:
- Log in to your Instagram account using the app or web browser.
- Go to Profile:
- Click on your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
- Access Settings:
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner to open the menu.
- Select “Settings” at the bottom.
- Choose ‘Account’:
- In the Settings menu, select “Account.”
- Deactivate Your Account:
- Scroll down and select “Temporarily disable my account.”
- Follow the on-screen instructions, providing a reason for deactivating.
- Enter your password when prompted.
This will temporarily deactivate your Instagram account. Your profile, photos, comments, and likes will be hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in.
Delete Your Instagram Account (Permanent):
Important: Deleting your account is irreversible, and all your data will be permanently removed.
- Open Instagram:
- Log in to your Instagram account using the app or web browser.
- Go to the Account Deletion Page:
- Visit the Instagram account deletion page.
- Choose a Reason:
- Select a reason for deleting your account from the drop-down menu.
- Enter Your Password:
- Enter your password when prompted.
- Permanently Delete Account:
- Click on “Permanently delete my account.”
This will permanently delete your Instagram account along with all your photos, videos, followers, and other account data.
Remember, deactivating or deleting your Instagram account may take some time to process, and you won’t be able to recover your data once the deletion is complete. If you’re unsure about permanently deleting your account, consider deactivating it temporarily instead.
