How to AutoFit in Microsoft Excel

In Microsoft Excel, “AutoFit” is a feature that allows you to automatically adjust the width or height of a cell or a column/row to fit the contents. Here’s how to use it:

  1. To AutoFit the width of a cell or column, select the column(s) you want to adjust by clicking on the column letter(s) at the top of the sheet.
  2. Double-click on the right boundary of any selected column. Excel will automatically adjust the column width to fit the widest cell content in that column.

Alternatively, you can also use the “AutoFit Column Width” command in the “Home” tab of the ribbon. To do this:

  1. Select the column(s) you want to adjust by clicking on the column letter(s) at the top of the sheet.
  2. Click on the “Format” button in the “Home” tab of the ribbon.
  3. Choose the “AutoFit Column Width” option in the “Cell Size” section of the dropdown menu.

To AutoFit the height of a cell or row, follow these steps:

  1. Select the row(s) you want to adjust by clicking on the row number(s) on the left of the sheet.
  2. Double-click on the bottom boundary of any selected row. Excel will automatically adjust the row height to fit the tallest cell content in that row.

Alternatively, you can also use the “AutoFit Row Height” command in the “Home” tab of the ribbon. To do this:

  1. Select the row(s) you want to adjust by clicking on the row number(s) on the left of the sheet.
  2. Click on the “Format” button in the “Home” tab of the ribbon.
  3. Choose the “AutoFit Row Height” option in the “Cell Size” section of the dropdown menu.

Note that AutoFit may not work properly if the cell contains merged cells, wrapped text, or other complex formatting. In such cases, you may need to adjust the column width or row height manually by dragging the boundary lines, or use other formatting options such as text wrapping or merging cells.
