To add line numbers to a Microsoft Word document:
- Open the document in Word.
- On the “Layout” tab, in the “Page Setup” group, click “Line Numbers.”
- Select the type of line numbering you want.
- Continuous: Line numbers will appear on every line of the document.
- Restart Each Page: Line numbers will restart at the beginning of each page.
- Restart Each Section: Line numbers will restart at the beginning of each section.
- Suppress for Current Section: Line numbers will not appear in the current section.
- Click “OK.”
The line numbers will appear in the document.

- Number style: Choose the format for the line numbers.
- Starting number: Choose the number that you want the line numbers to start with.
- Click “OK” to apply your changes.
Here are some additional tips for working with line numbers in Word:
- You can add line numbers to a selected section of text by clicking “Line Numbers” and then selecting “Continuous” or “Restart Each Section.”
- You can remove line numbers from a document by clicking “Line Numbers” and then selecting “None.”
