Where Do Screenshots Go on Mac?

When you take a screenshot on a Mac, it is saved as a file on your desktop by default. Here’s how to find your screenshots:

  1. Go to your desktop. You can do this by either minimizing or closing all open windows, or by pressing the F11 key to show your desktop.
  2. Look for the screenshot file. The file name will be in the format “Screen Shot [date] at [time].png” or “Screen Shot [date] at [time].jpg” depending on your settings. If you have taken multiple screenshots, they will be numbered in sequence (e.g. “Screen Shot [date] at [time] 2.png”).
  3. If you can’t find the screenshot on your desktop, check your Downloads folder. Sometimes screenshots are automatically saved to the Downloads folder instead of the desktop.
  4. If you want to change the default save location for your screenshots, you can do so in the Screenshot app. Open the app by pressing Command + Shift + 5, then click Options and choose a new save location under “Save to.”

That’s it! Now you know where to find your screenshots on a Mac.
