What Is Chrome’s Software Reporter Tool Process, and Can You Disable It?

Google Chrome includes a tool called the Software Reporter Tool, which scans your computer for potentially harmful software that could be interfering with Chrome’s normal operation. If the Software Reporter Tool finds any harmful software, it will notify you and allow you to remove it.

The Software Reporter Tool is a legitimate part of Chrome, and it is not a virus or malware. However, some users have reported that the Software Reporter Tool can sometimes cause high CPU usage or other problems. If you are experiencing these problems, you may want to disable the Software Reporter Tool.

To disable the Software Reporter Tool, open Chrome and go to Settings > Advanced > System. Under “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed,” uncheck the box next to “Software Reporter Tool.”

Once you have disabled the Software Reporter Tool, it will no longer scan your computer for potentially harmful software. However, you will still be able to remove any harmful software that is already installed on your computer using your antivirus software or another malware removal tool.

Here are the steps on how to disable the Software Reporter Tool:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the window.
  3. Select “Settings.”
  4. Scroll down and select “Advanced.”
  5. Scroll down to the “System” section.
  6. Under “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed,” uncheck the box next to “Software Reporter Tool.”
  7. Click on “Save.”

The Software Reporter Tool will now be disabled.
