How to use Google Chat

Google Chat is a communication tool developed by Google that allows you to send messages, share files, and collaborate with others. It’s available as part of the Google Workspace suite of productivity tools, but you can also use it for personal communication. Here’s how to use Google Chat:

  1. Sign in to Google Chat: Go to the Google Chat website (https://chat.google.com) or open the Google Chat app on your mobile device. Sign in with your Google account.
  2. Create a new chat: To start a new chat, click on the “New Chat” button (represented by a pencil icon) in the bottom left corner of the screen. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to chat with, then click “Start”.
  3. Send a message: Type your message in the chat box at the bottom of the screen and press “Enter” to send it. You can also send emojis, GIFs, and attachments by clicking on the relevant icons next to the chat box.
  4. Start a group chat: To start a group chat, click on the “New Chat” button and select “New Group”. Enter the names or email addresses of the people you want to add to the group, then click “Create”. You can then send messages to the entire group.
  5. Use @mentions: To get someone’s attention in a chat, use the @ sign followed by their name. They’ll receive a notification that they’ve been mentioned.
  6. Start a video call: To start a video call with someone, click on the “Video call” icon (represented by a camera icon) at the top of the chat box. You can also start a video call from a group chat.
  7. Manage your chats: To manage your chats, click on the three-dot icon next to the chat name. From there, you can mute notifications, mark a chat as unread, and more.
