How to Undo (and Redo) on Mac

Undo and redo are powerful tools that allow you to reverse actions you’ve taken on your Mac. Whether you’ve accidentally deleted an important file or made a mistake while editing a document, knowing how to undo (and redo) can save you time and frustration. Here’s how to undo and redo on a Mac:

Undo:

  1. Click on the application or window where you want to undo an action.
  2. Press the “Command + Z” keys simultaneously, or select “Edit” from the menu bar and click “Undo.”

This will undo the last action you took in that application or window. You can continue to press “Command + Z” or select “Edit” > “Undo” to undo additional actions.

Redo:

  1. Click on the application or window where you want to redo an action.
  2. Press “Command + Shift + Z” keys simultaneously, or select “Edit” from the menu bar and click “Redo.”

This will redo the last action you undid in that application or window. You can continue to press “Command + Shift + Z” or select “Edit” > “Redo” to redo additional actions.

Note: Not all applications support undo and redo actions. Some applications may have different shortcuts or menu options for undo and redo. If you’re unsure how to undo or redo in a specific application, check the application’s documentation or help menu for instructions.

Additionally, some applications may have multiple levels of undo and redo. This means that you can undo or redo multiple actions at once, depending on how many levels of undo and redo the application supports.

Knowing how to undo and redo on your Mac can be a real time-saver and can help you avoid mistakes that could cause frustration or even data loss.
