How to Move a Lost, Off-Screen Window Back to Your Desktop

If you have accidentally moved a window off-screen, making it appear as if it’s lost, there are a few things you can try to move it back to your desktop:

  1. Use the keyboard shortcut: Alt + Tab. This will allow you to cycle through all open windows, including the one that’s off-screen. Once you have selected the off-screen window, press Alt + Space to open the window’s system menu. From there, select “Move” using the arrow keys, and then use the arrow keys to move the window back onto the desktop.
  2. Use the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key + Left/Right Arrow. This will snap the current window to the left or right half of the screen, respectively. If the off-screen window is already open and active, this may bring it back onto the desktop.
  3. Use the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key + Up Arrow. This will maximize the current window, which may bring the off-screen window back onto the desktop.
  4. Use the taskbar. If the off-screen window is minimized, right-click on the taskbar and select “Cascade windows” or “Show windows stacked” to bring all minimized windows back onto the desktop.
  5. Adjust display settings. If none of the above methods work, it’s possible that the off-screen window is displaying on a secondary display that is not connected or turned on. In this case, adjust your display settings to ensure that all displays are detected and set up correctly.

Note: These methods may not work for all situations, and it’s possible that the off-screen window may be permanently lost.
