Renowned Tagore singer Sadi Mohammad, a pillar of Bangladesh’s cultural landscape, tragically passed away at his residence in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The 69-year-old maestro was discovered on Wednesday, with initial investigations suggesting that he had taken his own life.

The somber discovery was made by sub-inspector Zahangir Alam of Mohammadpur police station, who reported that the evidence at the scene pointed towards suicide. Sadi Mohammad was found hanging in a room within his home, sending shockwaves through the community and leaving a void in the hearts of music enthusiasts nationwide.

The news of his demise has cast a pall over the cultural sphere, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, fans, and admirers alike. Dancer Shamim Ara Nipa conveyed that Sadi Mohammad’s mortal remains are presently resting at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

In reverence to his memory, a funeral prayer, known as namaz-e-janaza, will be conducted in front of Sadi Mohammad’s residence in Mohammadpur on Thursday, offering an opportunity for friends, family, and well-wishers to bid farewell to the beloved artist.

Sadi Mohammad’s contributions to the world of music are immeasurable. As the director of the esteemed cultural organization Robi Raag, he dedicated his life to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Rabindra Sangeet. His passion and expertise were honed through academic pursuits, having attained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Rabindra Sangeet from Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal, India.

His talent and dedication were duly recognized during his lifetime, with accolades such as the Lifetime Achievement Award conferred upon him by Channel i in 2012 and the prestigious Rabindra Award bestowed by the Bangla Academy in 2015.

Sadi Mohammad’s legacy transcends his earthly existence, resonating through the timeless melodies he breathed life into and the countless lives he touched with his artistry. As Bangladesh mourns the loss of a cultural icon, his melodies will continue to echo in the hearts of those who cherished his music, ensuring that his spirit lives on eternally.
